Comet, we're told, was born November 4th, 2008. He lived with a woman who found herself despairing the impossible scenario where caring for your best poodle-buddy is just no longer possible. In September 2013, she brought him to a wonderful, no-kill rescue in Iowa who placed him easily. Within just a few months, the woman he was rehomed to became ill. Comet was no longer let outside regularly and when family realized Comet was no longer being properly cared for they, thankfully, returned him to the same shelter in early February, 2014. But, placing Comet would be harder now: he was suddenly unhousebroken--and afraid. | Within the next month he was adopted twice--and twice returned. He wanted too much attention. He barked at passersby. He had accidents. |
Each time Comet was returned, the shelter staff was shocked by his deterioration. This carefree, loving boy was becoming increasingly unhousebroken, untrusting, and distraught. They saw the cycle had to stop or Comet would become unsaveable. The day he was returned to them--again--it was time to Google "Iowa Poodle Rescue" and call Tri-State Poodle Club.
Being so busy with our major rehabilitation project, Valen, our taking him seemed implausible. Could transport be scheduled? Foster home found? Funds to meet his needs? He would need grooming and possibly vet care--could we responsibly commit to this boy right now? But, luck for some dogs can change. And, sometimes, all the poodle-stars do align and fall into place--and a Comet can find his way in :) |
When Poodle blessings rain, they might as well pour!
Comet shook in our arms when we arrived. He smelled so bad we took turns holding him. Comet cried when we put him in the kennel for the drive to his foster home. Poor little guy. | MANY thanks to Jamie of Doggie Do's in Galena for getting Comet in the very next day for a bath, dematting and poodle groom! |
Comet is now settling in nicely to his foster home. He is eating well, having remarkably few accidents, and soaking in the TLC. He obviously loves dogs of all sizes, people--especially kids--, soft furniture and warm snuggles! This super cute boy is ready for just about anything: as smart and full of life as any miniature poodle should be. He has had some muscle soreness and related lameness but is already feeling better thanks to his vet visit and new meds. Otherwise he checks out as a bit thin but healthy.
Although he will likely be ready for adoption very soon, we will take our time looking for the home that is best prepared for FOREVER....spread the word, this one's a winner!
