Our dear Comet has had a busy few weeks. He's spent Tuesday nights at the Dubuque regional Humane Society learning agility equipment very quickly! Comet is so proud of himself on the course: his head and tail could not be any higher than when he is running up that A-frame! He's the king of the mountain! Some of the pieces are still a little more difficult and scarier than others: the concept of weave poles escapes him and he's not a big fan of the chute--except when chasing a dog friend through it. He has gained the attention of onlookers who comment his eyes are always on his foster mom, looking for direction and really wanting to please. He's a classic mini-poodle: agile, intelligent, eager. He has been making many trips out to public areas for socialization and confidence-building. At the petstore, he's discovered the tank of mice...his new favorite thing to do is to try to figure out how to get in their tank to introduce himself. :) He continues to do well meeting strangers in public, but is nervous and will bark at strangers approaching the car or appearing unexpectedly. Running kids and new, big dogs also make him uncomfortable. We're working on his confidence and self-control but he will continue to need understanding and support with these scenarios in his new home. Comet's kennel training is progressing slowly; but as with any rescue, progress is progress, and we'll take it! He has completely stopped pooping in his crate. He will still pee in the crate when left alone (anxiety related), but the frequency is dropping. It's hopeful that he's nearly done with that behavior too. He has not had an accident in the house for weeks. We believe he is now housebroken and his ongoing struggle with urinating when left alone in a crate is anxiety-related. We're relieved his blood work all came back negative and healthy. Comet is also finally gaining a some muscle and much needed weight. | Comet is ready for adoption! To know more about this loving boy, please read through his blog posts. Comet's adoption fee is $225 with a $50 rebate offered after completion of two classes of your choice. Call 563-581-1821 or email [email protected] with any specific questions. He would be happiest spending his days going for walks and getting lots of snuggles. He is desperate to be loved. He has been bounced around so much he needs an owner familiar with the needs and behaviors of a mini and committed to working with him and appreciating the immeasurable amount of love Comet is eager to give in return. |
